The year is 2041 and it looks like the Australian Empire is set to become another thousand year Empire. The main thorn in its side is very first Territory, the former country of New Zealand, still overrun with Resistors twenty year after the Invasion was successful. Something has to give, and turning the Territory into a nuclear wasteland is starting to be brandied about as a viable option.

General Emma Calloway is young and infamous, the best the Empire has at putting down uprisings. Everyone knows of her and most everyone hates her but she has achieved what she set out to do: become so entangled with the Australian Empire that everyone forgets that she was once a New Zealander.

When the Governor-General appoints Emma to the position of Governor of New Zealand, the last thing Emma wants to do is accept but she’s stuck in a corner. Not only is she a soldier and she does what she’s told, she’s genuinely loyal to the Empire. So agree she does, even though she agrees with the prevailing opinion that she’s not cut out for the job. More to the point, New Zealand is a place in her past, and her past as a Resistor can no longer be forgotten.
