Transition
by M. J. Hammond
If you were a candidate for President of the United States, what would your life look like from the inside?
In part one of a two-part story, Rick Trent finds himself caught up in a race for the White House and begins writing a personal journal to document the final weeks of the campaign. As we get to know Trent, his wife, the incumbent president and others in this tight circle, we learn of events that could destroy a marriage and a revelation that could be disastrous for a nation.
In a U.S. presidential election, the world watches and shares in what seems to be every possible twist and turn as the weeks and months of a campaign unfold. Few watching think about the reality of the personal life of a candidate during all of the public spectacle. It's not possible-at least not for long-to freeze all of the day-to-day personal challenges and struggles of life while a campaign rolls on.
The author pondered over some of the thoughts and feelings that a candidate might experience trying to maintain balance. Balance between the pressures of a presidential race, the realization of the enormous responsibility that comes with a victory and the reality of maintaining self and personal relationships as life marches on through the whole daunting process. Transition is a glimpse of the challenges to that balance, a balance we all try to maintain through the stages and changes in our lives.
