Growing Pains of a Teenage Werewolf follows two adolescents madly in love facing the usual problems of growing up. Young love never burned so bright, so beautiful or so dangerously. Think of Romeo and Juliet but with a difference.
Millie is dying from one of the rarest cancers in the whole world. No one who has been unfortunate enough to contract this form of cancer has lived. Mark is trying to discover if there is any way of saving Millie.

Next he tried asking, “Are there any new innovative ways of treating cancer?”
Not so much stuff this time but still a lot to read. Mark started at the top of the list and read rapidly. Really rapidly. Faster than he had ever read before.
At last he found two articles by Alexander Masters. One was more detailed than the other and much longer but essentially they said the same thing. That two Swedish scientists were working on producing a virus that would eat cancer cells. The idea wasn’t new for as far back as 1896 a German woman dying from leukaemia had recovered after catching flu. Magnus Essand and Justyna Leja, the Swedish scientists, had managed to develop a safe virus deliberately genetically engineered to attack neuroendocrine cancer.
Mark shrugged. “Well, that’s no good. It doesn’t mention Krukenberg tumours.” He drummed his fingers on his desk for a few seconds then slapped himself on the forehead. “Don’t be a dope! Ask another question?”
And so it was that he found out that Krukenberg tumours showed unmistakeable evidence of neuroendocrine cancer.
“Eureka!” he shouted. “That’s it! All I have to do is go to Sweden and …. And … Mmm, do what exactly?”
Mark thought for a few moments. He went back to the detailed article. The problem hit him in the face. Due to the credit crunch the scientists could not get the money they wanted to trial the drug properly. What’s more all they wanted was one million pounds. Chicken feed in the pharmaceutical world where the profits from a successful drug that eliminated a life threatening disease were enormous.
Mark read again. He had to think. He was capable of thinking profoundly but he was only seventeen years of age even if he possessed extraordinary powers, So, what to do.
The answer came with a resounding thump on his front door. Somehow he immediately knew it was Mercedes. He ran down the stairs. His mother was already opening the front door.
“Oh, hello,” she was saying. “I suppose you must be …”
Mark pushed her aside then recomposed himself. “Mam, let me introduce you to Mercedes. Mercedes, my mother.”
The woman and the girl stared at one another. Mark could almost see the visceral sparks leap between them. They could have supplied all the power for Ottington and Rakely for at least a week.
Growing Pains of a Teenage Werewolf is both a realistic portrayal of teenagers in love and a heart pounding chiller of a horror thriller romance. What does Mark do when Mercedes’ mother interrupts their first date by returning unexpectedly covered in blood? What do Mark and Mercedes do when they are presented with the ultimate challenge that will have life-long implications for Mark’s friend, plain-looking but lovely Millie?
