Where would we be without Shadows? Without Darkness? Without Monsters and boogey-people? As this Anthology postulates, we must have darkness to balance light, shadow to balance substance, monsters to balance fairy godmothers. Here fairy-tale premises are turned inside out and upside down, reversed back to front, and offered for our delectation, insight, and sometimes, surprise.

Be prepared for an occasional shock, sometimes a “oh no, they didn’t,” but mostly, just be ready to be enlightened, entertained, delighted, by this collection of eleven stories, from authors familiar and also authors new. You may have been a childhood devotee of the Brothers Grimm and of Hans Christian Andersen, or maybe not so much; but I’m certain, you’ve never read fairy tales quite like any of these. Put your disbelief aside on the shelf; no, you won’t notice its absence- and just settle in for a peaceful evening by the fireside, while these storytellers spin you a web.
