In tribute to Charles L. Grant, that vastly prolific author of psychological and Supernatural horror, this series is set in Oxrun Station, Connecticut. On the surface Oxrun Station is a typical affluent community in the Northeast. Don’t ever let surface appearances fool you.
Young Sam is a temporary British immigrant, come to Oxrun Station for a year and a half with his parents, while his father, the “plantsman” (botanical scientist), researches a rare plant in the region and teaches at the College. Sam is befriended by Penny, also the child of a college professor, and unwittingly becomes the fulcrum of two romantic triangles: first, by interfering unintentionally in the developing romance between Penny and local boy Jeff; second, by forming his own relationship with waitress Glyn, a slightly older girl much castigated by Penny-for Glyn holds close an ugly family history. She doesn’t live on the wrong side of the tracks-she lives on the wrong side of history. Before the end of Halloween night, Sam will learn much more about the history of Oxrun Station’s dam than he ever wanted to know.
