Onward Peregrinos
by Myrna Ericksen
Maria, daughter of a former wealthy society family from Ecuador meets Glover Boynton, an American adventurer, who is seriously looking for a good woman to marry. Unable to speak English, Maria strives to fit into an old Southern American family early in her marriage. Overcoming the challenges of language, and unforeseen obstacles, she and Glover eventually journey to Panama where she raises her family. Her daughter Niza grows up at her father's side hunting in the jungles of Panama. She meets and marries an American G.I. but unlike her mother's romance she goes to the U.S. with all the skills she has learned in an American colony, the Panama Canal Zone. A saga portraying two strong, determined women, Maria, and her daughter, Niza, and the way they deal with the challenges that confront them as they each leave their homeland in their own time, only to return and find everything changed. Peregrinos, a word meaning pilgrim adventurers, aptly describes two generations of the Boynton family as they journey between the U.S., Central and South America.
