Mallory, Darrell's wife, was a nurse at a local hospital in their hometown of San Francisco. Their two children lived their entire lives in the same home, and loved The City.

When Darrell announced his plan to move to Santa Fe, his proposal is met with mixed reactions. Mallory was ready to pack up and move immediately. However their two children, Gemma and Preston, let it be known they were very much against the move.

In episode two, Darrell and his family find themselves enjoying their new life in New Mexico. The two feisty teenagers are learning to enjoy some of the things their new life entails, and Darrell has begun the rancher life he dreamed of.
