In 1987 the German crew of a Luftwaffe Tornado GR2 from RAF Cottesmore, visiting RAF station Valley, reported an incident which had everyone baffled. Witnesses included the two crewmen, pilot Major Helmut Wallmüller and electronics officer, Leutnant Franz Bartol-Skowronnek. They testified that the photograph shown to them on page 1 of the old Luftwaffe form, the Beurteilung T/oo66, that of Gefreiter Gerhard Fisher, was the same man who had recently approached them asking questions about the Tornado.

Fisher, born 14th August 1909, had died on November 1st 1940 while on a mission to attack the city of Liverpool. His Heinkel 111-H6, work number 4430, F8+KR of KG 40, piloted by Lt Georg Leins, had crashed at Bodwina Farm, Bylch-y-Fen, near Gwalchmai, on the Isle of Anglesey, North Wales. It had been shot down by an RAF Beaufighter nightfighter flown by Flying Officer Merv Shipard, Royal Australian Air Force, and his radar operator Sergeant Doug Oxby. Three Luftwaffe crewmen had died at the scene but the body of the pilot, Leutnant Georg Leins, had never been found.
