On Christmas Eve, Gene and Kim were anticipating their first home birth experience. The labor process had gone well but their firstborn was delivered with complications. Within minutes this intimate setting turned into desperation as the emergency team with a fire truck, ambulance and helicopter converged onto their mountain home. Gene shares the excitement of the delivery, which only he and Kim participated in as the baby arrived quickly, even before the midwife arrived. He discloses their fear and pain as the news was revealed about their child’s prognosis and their decision to remove her off life support. After four days they made the decision to take their baby off life support.

The first section of this book deals with the loss and recovery of their child but the remaining chapters are somewhat autobiographical as Gene shares events of his youth, how he met Kim, prayer and his call to ministry, which resulted from this experience.

Everyone who has lost a loved one will be encouraged by this couple’s honesty and courage.

Though they were strongly guided by their Christian faith, you will discover insights into how love and forgiveness are tied to healing.
