How you can fulfill the great commission through small groups

We must recognize the significance of the last words of Christ to His discipleship community when He gave them the great commission.

The great commission is great because it is urgent, foundational and central to God’s purposes. Jesus gave the great commission based on His example and His words, thus we affirm that He gave it in the context of discipleship through small groups.

Jesus developed discipleship through His small group of 12 disciples. The most important principle of discipleship, which is the biblical model for fulfilling the great commission, is training disciples through small groups.

This manual shows how to fulfill the great commission through discipleship in small groups just as Jesus taught through the discipleship principle of team ministry. Jesus never walked alone, he always ministered in the company of His small group of disciples.

Since Jesus was the firstborn Son of God, it is implicit that there would be others. His disciples were the first of the other sons of God. Jesus gave the great commission to his small group of 12 and a larger group of 120 disciples when He commanded them to go into all the world and make disciples.

Churches do many things but few do the main thing which is fulfilling the great commission through discipleship which is often pushed aside. The reason for this negligence is not complicated but often overlooked. It is simple: since fulfilling the great commission is so important, it is natural that Satan would do everything to oppose it.

Satan’s #1 strategy for opposing the great commission through discipleship in cell groups is to convince churches that it is sufficient to speak of it occasionally, and expect that it will happen spontaneously without embracing it as the first priority.

This book addresses the need for each church to become a team of overcomers and not merely a community of saved people. Each member must recognize that God has given His people His image and likeness and has commanded them to be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth. He gave this command to Adam & Eve, again to Noah, to Abraham and to all Christians through the great commission.

This book explains how each believer can become a minister (one who serves by leading others). In order to fulfill the great commission we must learn how to lead at least one person because it is impossible to make a disciple without exercising leadership. In order to fulfill the great commission we must know how to make a disciple. In the great commission Jesus told His followers to make disciples by preaching to them, teaching them to obey everything that He commanded, baptizing them and finally training them how to duplicate the entire process through another generation of disciples.

This book focuses on small group multiplication. Small groups are related to the local church just as biological cells are related to the body. This is why we often call small groups “cell groups”.
