The New Democracy Struggle - Kindle Non-Fiction

The New Democracy Struggle
by Patricio Maya

A new war between democracy-seeking bloggers and powerful dictators has ignited. "The New Democracy Struggle" tells the story of three of the most influential world bloggers and the dictatorial regimes they are fighting against.

For several years now, Ai Weiwei, Hossein Derakhshan and Yoani Sánchez have been fighting the Chinese, Iranian and Cuban dictatorships respectively. It's been tough. Blogs have made it possible to publish political dissent anywhere, but the old perils for those willing to speak out against dictatorships --persecution, incarceration, torture and death-- have not gone away. Cultural critic Patricio Maya looks at both, the brave postings and the ruthless reactions. He also draws conclusions about today's struggle for democracy in the wake of universal access to cheap self-publishing tools.
