Fiction Vs. Non-Fiction
"Writing fiction was a lot harder for me than non-fiction, a fact that totally surprised me.With a memoir you still face a blank page and have to create a universe, only it was easier for me to be working from memory and just bring the characters back to life.
With fiction I had to invent a totally different universe and create many characters that were alien to my nature. I had to imbue them with gestures, personalities and characteristics so they would be believable to the reader. I also needed to create situations, places, and moods; much like painting on a canvas and gingerly adding trees, lakes, flowers and skies. The process was a bit more tedious but also quite fascinating, because I could let my imagination go wild and surprise myself when it all came together resulting in a fine canvas.
At the conclusion, I realized that I stretched myself more as a writer by tackling fiction. It was a real challenge and I'm very glad I took it. There were times I wanted to give up and "write what I know" and only "what I know" but I stayed the course and I'm proud of the result. My advice to new writers would be to "try everything". Don't be afraid to stretch yourselves, don't be afraid to experiment. Do blogs, do articles, do novels, do everything; for only if you keep on writing, keep on creating, keep on dreaming, can you finally fulfill your dreams."
A Few of Beatrice's Books:
The Dark Path of Julie E
Jill & Mickey
Six Months of Wonderful
Beatrice Brusic was born in Oruro, Bolivia. Her mother brought her to La Paz, Bolivia when she was five years old. She emigrated to America when she was seventeen years old and has earned her living as a legal assistant, always dreaming of writing full time. "Beyond the Snows of the Andes" now on the Kindle and paperback is a fulfillment of that dream. Always a voracious reader, she finally made the transition from reader to writer five years ago when the memoir first began to take root. Throughout the years she's received positive reinforment of her passion for writing in her numerous attempts to express herself, but it took a great writer like Frank McCourt to finally break through the inhibitions that were holding her prisoner. I hope you'll enjoy her memoir. I hope you'll take from it hope and courage for whatever endeavor you want to take in your life.
Her second book "A Different Journey" which deals with the birth of her beautiful, exceptional daughter has also been published and it's now available on Kindle and paperback.
"Jill & Mickey, A True Story" is a short story about an extraordinary bird that is sweet and tender and should appeal to all animal lovers, not just bird lovers.
"Six Months of Wonderful," is also another short story about a magnificent Persian Cat that touched my life in a very special way and I think you will find it both beautiful and heartbreaking.
I am also working on my first novel (the name is secret till I finish it) which I hope to finish by the end of the year or by February of next year at the most. It will be the first time I'm tackling fiction and I'm finding it very exciting and challenging.
In addition, I also have a blog, "Let's Talk About Different Issues," which you can view on the Kindle.
