Summer Sundays (Aretha)
by John Abeln
Several seemingly unrelated murders, a terrorist cell group in Europe and Americans living in Brussels are at the intersection where this story of intrigue, deception and murder starts. Aretha is the unwitting protagonist when she takes a short term job with Gannon Water’s software company in Belgium. She is asked by Gannon’s wife Beth, to participate in the Summer Sunday Tours –a series of weekend packages for ex-patriots to see unique parts of Europe. Aretha falls for a UK colleague, Malcolm, at the same time the bus driver of the Tour is killed. The London and Brussels police are on the trail of murder suspects and a passport theft group. But there is this group of Middle Eastern men that are involved somehow but it is not clear how. Was the first murder revenge or a signal to another group about turf?
Author's Note: I lived with my family in Brussels for 5 years in the 1980's when there were serious unrest and small terrorist groups. So a lot of the experiences in the book are from my first hand knowledge. I've updated it to reflect the 21st century, but the same bad guys and murderers exist today.
