Wake Up In The Mourning
by Alycia Neighbours
“Surely this is all a bad dream.”
“I just want to wake up from this nightmare.”
To anyone who has uttered the phrases above, “Wake Up In The Mourning” was written for you. It’s learning to “Rise and Shine” after loss.
Loss of a spouse. Loss of a partner. Loss of a parent. Loss of a friend. Loss of a child. Loss of a job. Loss of a dream. Loss of self.
Regardless of your loss, its effects are raw, devastating and suffocating.
Sometimes one loss will spawn other losses to crop up.
The loss of a job will create a loss of security.
The loss of a security will generate a loss of future dreams.
The loss of a dream will morph into a loss of all hope.
My first loss was the loss of biological parents. Although I was adopted into a wonderful, caring family, the loss of “blood” family haunted me into the fear of abandonment. As years progressed I lost family pets, family members and a few friends. Adulthood would find me the survivor of domestic violence, divorce, a spouse suicide and ultimately a loss of self.
Unlike a pain scale that you would see in a doctor’s office, there are no varying degrees of loss. Loss is loss.
As you read through the steps of “Wake Up In The Mourning,” my hope is that you will learn to find your way to “rise and shine after loss.”
II Corinthians 1:4 who [God] comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.
