Blogging 201: Just Beyond the Basics
by Georgene Harkness
This is not a get-rich-quick book. In fact, while you may decide to monetize your blog, and I mention some effective ways to do that, you may not have any interest in earning money with your blog. Maybe you only want to be a better blogger. The main focus of this book is to help you come up with ways to increase your readership, get your name known in your niche as someone who knows what he or she is talking about, and to attract readers to engage with and form a small community of participants to interact with.
Usually these are the things, when done successfully, from which money flows, and if you do want to make money, there is mention of that, too, throughout the book. I just don’t go into great depth with it. Besides, if you want to make money blogging, there are even more books about that than there are about beginning your blog. Some even combine the two!
I have organized this ebook into four main sections.
The first section, The Basics of Blogging, just makes a quick run-through of what you need to have in place to have a successful blog. You probably already have these things, so you won’t need to spend a lot of time here. I only mention them to make sure we have a mutual agreement as to where we are and where we are going from here on in.
The second section, Focus on Your Goals, talks about your motivation, getting organized, and creating a schedule.
The third section, Get the Flow Going, is about how to be regular and predictable without being boring, making your readers happy, social media promotion, and keeping your content fresh and exciting.
The Fourth Section, The Right Mindset, will help you with suggestions on how get in and stay in the proper mindset for effective blogging, and how to make blogging an important part of your day, every day - even when you’re not at the computer.
Being effective with your blog is all about making the most of your time and putting the right amount of effort into the right places to achieve the result you want. It isn't always just about the amount of content that you write; it's also about how much you can leverage the potential of that content by making your reader and your advertisers, if you choose to have them, the focus of your work. Once you have managed that, you will soon find that your readers will be bringing people to you!
This ebook is approximately 12,000 words.
