THE FACE OF HORROR
Consider if you will, flashing back to what first frightened you. It might have been grabbing on to a leg in a grocery store when you were two, only to look up and see that that the person certainly wasn't your mother. You cry, really loud until the situation is resolved. A few years go by, you get a planter's wart on your foot, and your brother says that the doctor is going to cut the whole thing off and they're going to give you a fake foot. Your mother wonders why you're so upset, you tell her, the doctor laughs and tells you what happened when he cut off your brother's wart. He cried. Go forward a few more years and Stephen King writes a book that completely turns you off clowns for the rest of your life. Not that you really liked them in the first place, but now there's no way in hell you're hiring one for a kid's birthday party. Ever.
The face of horror has many facades. It's a very personal thing.
I've been reading lately, about the true- life murder of Hollywood's 81-year old Catherine Davis by "Sons of Anarchy" actor Johnny Lewis. Here's a woman who opened her home to many a struggling actor, only to have a very violent final scene at the hand of one of her lodgers. Horror came in the form of a reddish haired, blue-eyed charmer who had shared her home before, but this time, suddenly snapped. What's HORRIFIC about it, is that people seem more taken by the fact that Lewis dated Katy Perry, than the fact that a kind woman lost her life due to a senseless act of a disturbed man.
So as we head into October, the undisputed month of Horror, keep this in mind. Just when you thought you've dealt with all your demons and you know all your enemies, go around that corner. Remember there's a new batch of them hanging around singing "Enter Sandman", and sleep with one eye open.

great post - so sad that catherine davis ever came into contact with johnny lewis. may she rest in peace. but the good thing to come out of this is that johnny lewis has spared the taxpayers court and further incarceration costs.
