Dr. Robert Lawler has a story to tell and his former student, Ron Freeman, is listening intently. Having been abducted and then taken to a medieval-era dungeon somewhere in present day Eastern Europe, both Lawler and Freeman first are interrogated, beaten and then left for dead in a cold, stone cell by members of a shadowy group known only as The Arba. Freeman, already having endured the ultimate sacrifice in losing members of his family after inadvertently stumbling across this group, insists upon answers from Lawler; a man who is intimately familiar with everything associated with these mysterious people. In order to fully explain just what The Arba is, Lawler has to explain the very origins of man on earth to Freeman. Thus begins an epic saga that traces humanity from a time before Adam and Eve up to the present day. Through the telling of the tale, Freeman is made aware of a creation so vile and evil that the earth was completely destroyed in an attempt to eradicate the infestation; Freeman learns about the Nephilim.
